EASTERN CONNECTICUT STATE UNIVERSITY OFFERS PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Eastern Connecticut State University’s mission is to prepare students for community and industry leadership. For this reason, we have established a limited number of Presidential Scholarships for international students to

recognize their outstanding potential to become leaders in their respective communities.

This Presidential Scholarship is a partial tuition waiver in the amount of $5,000 per academic year. It is renewable each year until completion of an undergraduate degree as long as qualified international students are in good academic standing.

Eastern Connecticut State University is the state’s designated public liberal arts college. A predominantly undergraduate institution, Eastern attracts and welcomes a diverse community of learners, supported by a teaching faculty, staff, administrators, and a residential campus that promote intellectual curiosity, integrity, and social responsibility.

SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR WOMEN AT ST. CATHERINE UNIVERSITY

International students are an integral part of the student community at St. Catherine University, a Catholic liberal arts instutition located in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota. Many international students receive some financial assistance through International Student Scholarships, which range from $1,000 to $16,000 per year while enrolled full time.

The scholarship is awarded to female, undergraduate students enrolled in the day program. Scholarships are based primarily on academic achievement and financial need and are applied to tuition and room and board. Note that most International Student Scholarships are based on the student taking four classes per semester and living on campus. Scholarships will be reduced if a student takes fewer classes or lives off campus.

INSTITUTE FOR HUMANE STUDIES OFFERS RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS

The Institute for Humane Studies provides Humane Studies Fellowships to graduate students and outstanding undergraduates planning academic careers and engaged in liberty-advancing research. Past fellows have researched topics such as historical and contemporary ideas on freedom of action and the rule of law, and the fellowships

support students in variety of fields, including economics, philosophy, law, political science, history, and sociology.

Awards range from $2,000 to $15,000 and fellowship winners may re-apply for each year of their studies. In 2010, the Institute for Humane Studies awarded more than $650,000 to 180 students. The program is open to full-time graduate students, including law and MBA students, and undergraduate juniors and seniors with a demonstrated interest in pursuing an academic career. The application deadline for the 2012-2013 academic year is December 31, 2011.

UNIVERSITY OF BRIDGEPORT ANNOUNCES NEW INTERNATIONAL GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The University of Bridgeport in Connecticut has launched a new international graduate scholarship program for incoming international graduate students. Students applying to the MBA Program, Global Development and Peace

Program, or any program in our School of Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical, Computer Science, and Computer Engineering) are eligible for this award. Applicants will automatically be considered for a scholarship when they send in the University of Bridgeport international application and all admissions materials.

Students may be awarded $3,000, $4,000 or $5,000 per year based on academic achievement and test scores (a TOEFL/IELTS score and a GRE or GMAT score are required). The scholarship will be for the international student’s first year of study, and all graduate students with a scholarship must take 9 credits per semester.

SACRED HEART UNIVERSITY APPROVED AS TOEFL TESTING SITE

The English Language Institute at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut recently received approval to serve as an Institutional TOEFL testing site. Tests are held every 6 weeks on campus.

The Institute offers high quality English Language instruction to non-native speakers of English. It is an integral part of Sacred Heart University, where our students can participate in campus activities and events as well as meeting other students. The Summer Program is currently underway, with participating students from ten different countries: Bangladesh, China, Colombia, Greece, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Switzerland, Turkey, Venezuela, and Vietnam.

NEW MASTER’S PROGRAM IN EDUCATION AT COLUMBUS STATE UNIVERSITY

Starting this fall, Columbus State University in Columbus, GA will offer a master’s degree in education specifically designed for college and

university administrators. The new Master’s of Education with a concentration in higher education is designed to provide individuals with an interdisciplinary approach to serve as administrators and leaders in a variety of higher education settings. The program is housed in Columbus State University’s nationally accredited College of Education and Health Professions.

Classes will be taught with a combination of face-to-face classroom and online options, and they will include opportunities for internships in student affairs and enrollment management areas across the country and at Columbus State University. Applications are being accepted until July 29 for the fall

2011 semester.

NEW BOOK: LL.M. ROADMAP FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS "LL.M. Roadmap: An International Student’s Guide to U.S. Law School

Programs" provides ‘roadmaps’ through the LL.M. process, from considering why to do an LL.M., choosing the “best” U.S. law school (and

getting admitted), ranking, funding, succeeding in school, and various law careers. LL.M. Roadmap provides many checklists and reference sources for international LL.M. students wishing to study at a U.S law school.

Professor George Edwards, the author of "LL.M. Roadmap," teaches at Indiana University School of Law, where he is the director of the Program in International Human Rights Law. Personal profits from LL.M. Roadmap are being donated to the International Law Students Association (ILSA) (http://www.ilsa.org). The book will be available July 2011 through the publisher Aspen/Wolters Kluwer.

NIGERIAN STUDENT AWARDED FULL MIT SCHOLARSHIP

Master Abel Adama, a student from Kogi State in Nigeria, has won a scholarship worth over $228,472 over a four-year period to study at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The scholarship, which is worth

$57,118 per year, covers tuition, feeding, accommodation, books and

other essentials. Adama and 90 other Nigerian students coming to study at universities in the US attended a pre-departure orientation session organized by the EducationUSA Advising Center in Abuja.

Adama faced extreme financial hardships and other obstacles in his journey to the US. He received advice and guidance at his local EducationUSA Advising Center and gained scholarship funds through the Rochas Foundation and the United States Students Achievers Program (USAP).
