SUNY POTSDAM OFFERS FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE THROUGH INTERNATIONAL INCENTIVE PROGRAM

SUNY Potsdam offers a International Incentive Program to qualified

undergraduate students to help with the costs of attending university in the US. The incentive is equal to $8220 each year for a maximum four years. To receive this funding, students must maintain full-time enrollment (minimum of 12 credits per semester), live in campus housing, and participate in the campus meal plan.

SUNY Potsdam (or the State University of New York at Potsdam) is a four-year public university located in rural upstate New York. SUNY Potsdam welcomes a number of international students each year and currently hosts students from 31 different countries.

GLOBAL SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE TO INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS AT MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY

Michigan State University provides a variety of funding opportunities for international students who wish to study at the undergraduate level. Upon submission of an application for admission, all international undergraduates will

automatically be considered for the Global Neighbors Scholarship, a merit-based $4,000 annual scholarship that is renewable for eight consecutive semesters. In addition, the Global Spartan Scholarship is a one-time award of $1,000 awarded to academically talented international students based on grade point average at the time of application.

Each year, more than 4,200 students and 1,000 scholars from 100 countries join the Michigan State University community. The Office of International Students and Scholars (http://oiss.isp.msu.edu/) provides helpful information for students about the visa process, academic and social life, and ways to get involved on the MSU campus.

GLOBAL FELLOWSHIP AND FORTE FELLOWSHIP AVAILABLE FOR MBA STUDENTS AT INDIANA UNIVERSITY

The MBA program at Kelley School of Business at Indiana University

Bloomington has several funding opportunities available to international graduate students. Each academic year, approximately eight Global Fellowships valued at $25,000 are provided through the Institute for Global Organizational Effectiveness. Preference is given to students who have a direct connection with Latin America.

In addition, women who are entering the MBA program can apply to be a Forté Fellow, which provides half- to full-tuition funding for both years of the program. This award is offered through the Forté Foundation, whose mission is to increase the number of female business leaders and to support their careers through business education and networks.

International students may also qualify for other awards, including the Dean’s Fellowship, School of

Business Merit Fellowships, and Graduate Assistantships.

FACULTY FOR THE FUTURE PHD AND POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS AVAILABLE TO WOMEN

The Schlumberger Foundation awards Faculty for the Future fellowships

to women from developing and emerging economies who are preparing for PhD or post-doctoral study in the physical sciences and related disciplines at top universities abroad. Launched in 2004, the Faculty for the Future community now stands at 194 women from 54 countries, and it grows steadily each year. Program grants, which are based on the actual costs of studying and living in the chosen location, are capped at $50,000 for PhDs and $40,000 for Post-doctoral study.

Applicants must meet the following criteria to apply:

– Be a woman;

– Be a citizen of a developing country;

– Wish to pursue PhD or Post-doctoral research in physical sciences or related disciplines;

– Have applied to, have been admitted to, or are currently enrolled in a university abroad;

– Wish to return to their home country to continue academic career upon completion of studies;

– Be very committed to teaching and demonstrate active participation in outreach work to encourage young women into the sciences;

– Hold an excellent academic record

The 2012 Awards session will be open to applications on September 1st 2011.

OREGON STATE UNIV BEGINS PROCESS TO ESTABLISH STATE’S 1ST ACCREDITED PUBLIC HEALTH COLLEGE

The Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) has formally approved Oregon State University’s request to begin an accreditation process to become the first nationally accredited College of Public Health and Human Sciences in the state of

Oregon. Currently, the Department of Public Health at OSU offers degrees at the graduate level (Master’s and PhD) and at the undergraduate level (BS in Health Management and Policy, and BS in Health Promotion and Health Behavior).

Through the accreditation process, OSU hopes to build a world-class public health education, research and outreach system that helps to serve the local, national, and international communities. Tammy Bray, dean of the College of Public Health and Human Sciences, said, “The accreditation process allows faculty and staff to design cutting-edge curricula in the classroom and to build partnerships… that focus on prevention, healthy lifestyle and behaviors."

UNIV OF WASHINGTON TO HOST GLOBAL SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP COMPETITION FOR STUDENTS

The Global Business Center at the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business is hosting its 8th annual Global Social Entrepreneurship Competition (GSEC). The application opens July 25, 2011 and the deadline for submission is November 9, 2011.

The Global Social Entrepreneurship Competition (GSEC) is a leading-edge international social venture plan competition, where interdisciplinary student teams from around the world propose innovative, commercially viable businesses aimed at reducing poverty in developing economies.

Monetary prizes will be awarded to the GSEC teams that develop the most innovative businesses with the best integration of financial and social returns on investment, including Information & Communication Technologies (ICT) and Global Health prizes. GSEC business plans may focus on any subject area and it is open to currently enrolled students at any academic institution of higher education worldwide. Multi-disciplinary teams are strongly encouraged.
