INTERNATIONAL BIOTECHNOLOGY GRAD STUDENTS FROM STEPHEN F. AUSTIN STATE UNIVERSITY FEATURED

At Stephen F. Austin State University, two of our international Biotechnology graduate students are featured in an article on an exciting funded research project they have been participating in! The students are currently studying the DNA of the Sunn pest (responsible for destroying millions of acres of wheat crops throughout Northern Africa, Northern Asia and Eastern Europe). The results of the research could be used to produce a bio-pesticide that kills the insect before it can harm any crops.

FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY’S COLLEGE OF LAW ANNOUNCES MASTER OF LAWS DEGREE

The College of Law will offer a Master of Laws degree, a one-year program for attorneys holding law degrees from outside the United States.
The first class of students will enroll in the fall semester of 2014. The degree, known as an LL.M., provides an introduction to the study of United States law and gives students a general, conversant level of understanding of United States legal institutions, substantive law, and practice. DREXEL UNIVERSITY OFFERS NEW GRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAM

A new graduate program in Drexel University’s Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design will prepare students for leadership roles in museums across the country and around the world. The Master of Science degree is designed to meet the needs of both mid-level museum professionals who want to advance their careers and students who are aspiring leaders in the field.
Students will be exposed to issues at various types of museums, including science, history and cultural museums, as well as historical houses and sites and living collections such as zoos, arboreta and aquariums. The interdisciplinary curriculum was created in collaboration with faculty from the iSchool at Drexel, the University’s School of Education and Drexel’s College of Arts and Sciences, as well as colleagues from the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University.

CCI GREENHEART OFFERS INTENSIVE SUMMER ENGLISH ACADEMY PROGRAM

CCI Greenheart’s Summer English Academy Program offers an intensive English language program exclusively for teenager’s ages 14 to 18 years old. Participants have the opportunity to live and study with other international teens on beautiful boarding school campus, study English, see New York City or San Francisco and participate in fun, cultural afternoon activities. These two and three-week courses are led by certified ESL teachers who offer creative language lessons with a focus on conversational skills and provide English speaking opportunities at all times: meals, activities and class. SIENA HEIGHTS UNIVERSITY TEACHER EDUCATION, EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP RECEIVE ACCREDITATION FROM TEAC

The University recently learned it received full national accreditation for both its Teacher Education and the Educational Leadership programs. The Teacher Education Accreditation Council informed SHU that both programs received accreditation. The Teacher Education program received a full seven-year accreditation while the Educational Leadership program was granted five-year initial accreditation from TEAC’s accreditation committee.
SHU’s Director of Undergraduate Teacher Education Sally Rae said she was pleased with the overall process and the outcome for both programs. “We are thankful for those at Siena Heights and the Lenawee community who shared in the two self studies and who helped prepare for accreditation,” said Rae, who also credited Dean of the Graduate College Dr. Anne Hooghart and former Graduate Teacher Education Director Dr. Kelly Cichy with their leadership during the process. Rae said the university received official word about its accreditation from TEAC Executive Vice President Diana Rigden. SHU earned the longest duration of accreditation offered by TEAC for both programs.

NUMBER OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS AT ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY INCREASES BY 16%

The number of international students at Arizona State University increased this year, as did the number of services it makes available to help those students feel at home. Of the 72,254 students at ASU this semester, 6.1 percent were international students. That is a 16 percent increase from the year before.
ASU welcomes these students and encourages them to get involved by participating in clubs and organizations and interacting with other students of similar and different cultures and ethnicities, according to OrgSync, a clubs and organization tool offered through ASU.

Felician College is an independent, co-educational Catholic/Franciscan College and the only Franciscan college in New Jersey. Founded and sponsored by the Felician Sisters, Felician was established in 1942 to educate a diverse population of students within the framework of a liberal arts education. Felician College is located on a safe, beautiful campus in Northern New Jersey, just 10 miles outside New York City.
Felician College is still accepting applications for the Fall 2013 semester. The New School for Social Research provides an education grounded in history and informed by a legacy of critical thought and civic engagement. UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS SCHOOL OF LAW HELPS ACCELERATE YOUR LAW DEGREE COMPLETION

The University of Arkansas School of Law offers one of the lowest tuition rates at approximately $12000 per semester for international students. Among the benefits offered to accelerated candidates, is the ability to transfer in a number of credits from a student’s previous legal coursework outside of the U.S. into their Juris Doctor program, thus "accelerating" the time required to finish their degree. The awards will be given on the basis of academic excellence and potential to become an outstanding student at Lincoln University. Students must submit a completed application form and all required documentation at least one month before the beginning of a semester. The Lincoln University Scholarship Committee will interview applicants, select winners and announce them before the semester begins.

PITTSBURG STATE UNIVERSITY CELEBRATES KOREAN CULTURE

Korean culture, food and entertainment was on display during Korean Culture Day, an annual event held at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 4, in the Crimson and Gold Ballroom of the Overman Student Center at Pittsburg State University. The event, open to the public, was hosted by the PSU Korean Student Association. The event featured a variety of displays of Korean culture, including a fan-dancing performance, martial arts exhibition and musical ensembles. Traditional Korean food was also be available.

"This is an exciting event that is aimed at promoting the friendship between the Korean students at PSU and students from many other cultures," said Jamie Lee, KSA president. "We want to share the Korean culture and show how Korean students contribute to the diversity at PSU."

SIMMONS COLLEGE HOSTS FULBRIGHT WOMEN’S RE-ENTRY SEMINAR

For a second consecutive year, Simmons College has been awarded the opportunity to host a Fulbright Women’s Re-Entry Seminar. Approximately 100 international Fulbright foreign students from Sub-Saharan Africa, the Western Hemisphere, Southeast Asia, and South and Central Asia will attend a four-day seminar at Simmons before heading back to their home countries.

The seminar, which took place April 17-20, is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and the Fulbright Program, the U.S. government’s flagship international exchange program supported by the people of the United States and partner countries around the world. United States – Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission (US-SLFC)

The US-SLFC was founded in 1952 by an Agreement between the Government of the United States of America and the Government of Ceylon for the administration of educational exchange programmes in Sri Lanka.

The programme aims to promote cultural understanding between the United States and Sri Lanka through mutual academic exchange. To-date over 832 Sri Lankan and American scholars have participated in various academic programmes monitored by the J William Fulbright Scholarship Board.

The University of Iowa is a major national research university located on a 1,900-acre campus in Iowa City in southeast Iowa. ACT PLUS WRITING ADDS SEPTEMBER TESTING DATE

We are pleased to announce that beginning with the upcoming 2013-2014 academic year, ACT is adding a September “ACT Plus Writing” date for students testing outside of the US and Canada. This new September offering replaces the February “ACT No Writing” date, meaning that all international ACT dates now offer the Writing option.
Students outside the US and Canada wanting to apply early to colleges and universities can now do so on the same schedule as their US and Canadian counterparts, beginning with the September 21, 2013, test date.

COMMUNITY COLLEGES OF SPOKANE ANNOUNCE NEW 2-YEAR HONORS PROGRAM

American Honors is a new 2-year honors program offered at CCS– it’s designed for bright students who want to graduate from a top 200 US 4-year university and at the same time save money and have a more personalized experience. At the conclusion of the 2-year program, students will earn an Associate’s degree with honors and will have the opportunity to apply to transfer to a top-tier university to complete their Bachelor’s degree. This year, our CCS honors students have been accepted for transfer to Stanford, the University of Washington, University of Michigan, Rutgers, Ohio State, Gonzaga and many others. Many of our students have also received substantial merit-based scholarships to transfer institutions.
Merit-based scholarships are available for outstanding domestic and international students with the completion of an American Honors application.
